Reconstruction of Old City of Nantong

在旧城区的规划和改造中,如何正确地继承祖先留下来的文化遗产,做到取其精华弃其糟粕,充分利用已形成的物质基础,赋予社会主义时期的新内容,更好地满足人民日益增长的物质和精神生活的需求,这是旧城区规划和改造的一个普遍而重要的任务。

Occupying an area of 222.91 hectares, the city area of Nantong consists of three parts: the old town, the new town and Gaohe. The reconstruction project is aimed at the preservation of the original characteris--tics and style. Development of industry since liberation has increased the finacial income of the city, which has an accumulation capable for city development, such as reconstruction housing, repair of bridges and roads, sewage system, public transportation and gardening. With a view to rational use of land, the reconstruction project has been comprehensively considered in readjustment of land use and disposition of new constructions. Principal points to be reconstructed have been designated and are to be carried out in steps. Preservation of old architecture and historical relics, as well as old trees and sceneries, is an important part of the project.
