摘要 在国际地震学与地球内部物理学协会 (IASPEI)成立 10 0周年之际 ,我们对 2 0世纪中国现代地震学的发展历史进行了简要回顾 ,并讨论了作为一门观测科学的地震学的未来发展趋势。 2 0世纪的中国地震学史 ,可以分成三个时期 :2 0世纪上半叶 ;195 0年代至 1970年代 ;1970年代末至2 0世纪末。地震学的发展 ,除取决于科学发展本身的逻辑和观测技术的进步之外 ,也在很大程度上与地震的发生有着密切的关系。作为一门公益性的应用科学 ,地震学的发展在相当程度上取决于整个社会的努力。 For the 100th anniversary of the International Association of Seismology and Physics of the Earth's Interior (IASPEI), we briefly reviewed the development of seismology in China in the 20th century and discussed the future development of seismology as an observational science. The evolution of seismology in China in the 20th century can be divided into three historical periods: the 1920s to the 1950s characterized by the pioneering works in the difficult circumstances; the 1950s to the 1970s characterized by the establishment of the nationwide infrastructure for seismological research and reduction of earthquake disasters, especially the attacking of the problem of earthquake prediction; and the late 1970s to the end of the 20th century characterized by the modernization of seismological observations and the active participation in the international cooperation. As an observational science, the development of seismology is determined not only by the evolution of science and technology but also by the occurrence of earthquakes which provides seismologists as well as the society with opportunities to observe and study the phenomenology of earthquakes and seismic disasters. As an applied discipline of physical science with significant engineering and societal impacts, the development of seismology also relies on the public understanding and the interaction between seismologists and society.
