Application of myringotomy and ventilation tube insertion in the hearing rehabilitation of children with secretory otitis media

AIM:To study the role of the myringotomy a nd ventilation tube insertion in the hearing rehabilitation of the ch ildren with secretory otitis media(SOM).METHODS:Myringotomy and ventilation tube in sertions were performed in56children with chronic SOM.RESULTS:The pure-tone threshold average(PTA)of six months after operation in 50ca ses(91ears)was improved significantly compared with the pre operative PTA(P<0.01).The effective rate of myringotomy and ventilation tube insertion was 92.3%.CONCLU-SION:As a therapeutic method in the hearin g rehabilitation of the children with chronic SOM,the myringotomy an d ventilation tube insertion should be used as primary surgical therapy.
