By analyzing the first part of Boswell’s Life of Johnson,the present author thinks Boswell selects skillfully Johnson’s conflicts with his environment, other people and within his personality,to show Johnson’s unique character,and draw a conclusion that conflict is the soul of modern biography which provide a new way for studying and writing biographies.
