Evolution of Dispatch Office in the Song Dynasty

北宋发运使始见于建隆二年,从临时性的多处并设,逐步发展为江淮和三门白波两处稳定设置。江淮发运使也经历了由在京师分水、陆两司设置,到在淮南合为一司设置的演变过程。宋初设三门发运,太平兴国五年正式置使,至北宋末始终不罢。南宋发运使虽然发生了很大转变,但直至南宋末仍然设置。

Dispatch offices came into existence in the Northern Song Dynasty in 961 A.D. They developed from temporary offices in many places to permanent offices in Jianghuai and Baibo, Sanmen. Jianghuai Dispatch Office was first set up in the Capital with two sectors handling dispatches by water and land, and then became a twoinone office in Huainan. Sanmen Dispatch Office was officially set up in 980 A.D, and existed all the way through the Northern Song Dynasty. Dispatch offices had undergone great changes, but they were still in use until the end of Southern Song Dynasty. 
