The early twenty years of the twenty century was a period of transition of Chinese novels from traditional patterns of narration to mordern ones.Quite a few new novel writers made prominent contributions towards the shift of angle in narration of novels,who laid equal stress on absorbing new knowledge and developing the tradition and with difficulty exploped it in their practice of writing. Laotsan travels is a representative of the novels of the transitional period.
