《乞力马扎罗的雪》所描述的对象世界由三个层次的时空构成 :当下性的人物活动于其中的“现实”时空、人物回忆构成的心理时空和纯粹虚拟的非现实时空。文本外现实世界的叙述中包含的主体转换关系决定了文本内主体视角结构的时空分布。文本内虚拟世界的意义依托文本外世界的“真实性”
There are three spatiotemporal layers in The Snow of the Kilimanjaro: the 'realistic' space and time in which the characters are going along; the psychological space and time formed by characters' feelings and retrospect and purely virtual space and time. The conversion of the subjects in the narration determines the distribution of the space and time of the structure of the perspectives of the subjects. The meaning of the virtual world inside the version rests on the 'authenticity' of the world outside the version.
