The ULMA NTi testing system operates by taking snapshots of the paper web based on the CCD-camera optical testing system, undertaking a ratio analysis of its grayness by means of computers, and then making automatic diagnosis of the paper defects. This paper introduces the configuration, the testing principles, the employment, operation, maintenance and common malfunctions of the ULMA NTi paper defect testing system applied to the PM5 ~PM8 newsprint machines produced by Guangzhou Paper Group, Ltd., thereby testifying the monitoring function of the paper defect testing system on the quality of newsprint.
