摘要
20世纪美国南方文学代言人威廉·福克纳擅长在创作时广泛地运用象征手法以使作品超越具体的故事情节和时空的限制而上升到涵纳整个人类存在的高度。探讨了福克纳的代表作《喧哗与骚动》中的结构象征、人物象征和种种意象象征,分析小说中象征的广泛运用对于表现作品的基本题旨,提升作品内涵高度所起的作用。
William Faulkner, a spokesman for the American South in the 20th century, is expert in wide employment of symbols to enable his work to transcend specific plots and time and space and reach a higher point of studying human being. This paper aims at revealing the symbolic world of structure, characters and images in Faulkners representative work of The Sound and the Fury and analyzing the significance of the employment of various symbols for the theme and the depth of ideological content.
