作者从Lexis-Nexis数据库中收集了从1990年至1999年间《纽约时报》、《华盛顿邮报》、《洛杉矶时报》和《基督教科学箴言报》四家美国大报国际版上有关中国的所有新闻报道的标题,从媒体的议题设定功能出发,对标题内容进行分类和量化分析,从报道量、报道内容和报道走势三方面如实反映90年代美国大报上的中国形象。
This is a report of an investigation into China's image as created by 4 major American newspapers (The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Christian Science Monitor, and The Los Angeles Times) from 1990 to 1999. Headlines of all news reports on China published during the 10 years have been collectedfrom Lexis-Nexis database. Based on the theory of agenda-setting, 10 different topics have been identified and then each analyzed in terms of volume of coverage and the trend of the topic, with a view to presenting China's image thus reflected.
