There were disputes, struggles and compromises between the United States and Britain at the Paris Peace Conference when the two countries attempted to redefine the spheres of influence after the First World War. While the United States aimed mainly at establishing its hegemony in the League of Nations, Britain was basically concerned with its power at sea and in the colonies. However, as no country was able to control the world without the cooperation of others, both the United States and Britain made compromise. The final agreements reflected the manipulation of great powers in the “new world order', as well as the limits of American and British diplomacy.
