摘要
'中国作为理论'是理论化中国的知识计划,亦即'中国'在知识体系内的位阶具有理论的功能或地位,与'西方现代性'的知识范式进行竞逐。另一方面,'中国作为理论'的提法是为了回应'中国已不具本质'或'中国仍具有本质'这两种说法,亦即强调中国是个'理论建构',尚不具有完全的实在性,但却是从建构不断走向实在的未完成过程,因此亦非虚构。中国的理论想象除了需要各种中国特色或模式的丰富与细部的研究外,还必须设想内含张力的原理,本文则讨论了汉字、连续性、大一统。最后略论在本文的展望下,如何看待'左/统'与'中国人'问题。
As an intellectual project to theorize China,'China as theory'means that China has assumed a theoretical function or status that can contend with the paradigm of'western modernity'for explaining the world.Furthermore,'China as theory'posits China as a theoretical construct,an unfinished project that is incessantlymoving towards realization. In other words,China is not a fictitious entity,but neither is it a reality with fixed essence. The theoretical imagination of China not only requires rich and detailed study of various,specific Chinese models and Chinese ways,but also calls for postulates that have explanatory and internally intensive power. Three such postulates are proposed here:China as the Chinese Character(being adaptive to new language situations),China as a Continuum(being different from contingent series or unconnected sequence),and China as Great Unification(overcoming severance and division). This essay also demonstrates the implications of its outlook on the issues of'Left-wing reunification'and'being Chinese'.
