清华简《尹诰》“■”字新释

New Interpretation of the Character Jie( ■) in the Chapter Yingao of Tsinghua Bamboo Strips

清华简《尹诰》是久佚的真正的《尹诰》或《咸有一德》,其价值十分宝贵。1号简"■"字,学者释读颇见分歧,据楚文字中"桀(傑)"字的构形,此字中间右部实从"匄",可读为"遏"。简文"夏自遏其有民"可与《书·汤誓》"夏王率遏众力"对读。

It is widely known that the Chapter Yingao in the collection of Tsinghua Bamboo Strips should be a lost chapter Yingao or Xianyou Yide in Book of Documents, and, therefore, the value of this chapter has already been recognized. In the No. 1 strip, there is one character jie(■) whose interpretation is hugely debated. This paper suggests that, according to the character jie( 桀), the component in the middle-right of■,should be 匄, which can also be interpreted as jie( 遏).For this reason, the text ‘ 夏自遏其有民 ’ is equivalent to ‘ 夏王率遏众力 ’ mentioned in the Chapter Tangshi in Book of Documents.
