Edith Wharton is one of the representatives of the early twentieth century American naturalist novelist, won the Pulitzer Prize in 1920. 'Happy House' is Wharton's famous for, but also the text of the American literary naturalism. The book tells the story of the hero Lily filled with contradictions, New York high society in the 1870 s, and in the social customs and traditions struggling between life tragedies. This article is intended to naturalism two features in the exploration and appraisal, 'The House of Mirth'- The determinism and consumerism.
