习语是人类在长期的实践过程中凝练出来的固定短语和固定短句,是人类文化的载体。习语简练精悍,言简意赅,是语言的精华,它带有浓厚的民族色彩和鲜明的文化内涵。由于中国和英语国家在地理、历史、宗教信仰、生活习俗等方面存在很大差异,英汉习语能够反映各自民族的文化特色。习语翻译的优劣会对整篇译文的质量将会产生着直接的影响。

Idioms are fixed expressions and sentences which have been refined through years of practice. Concise in form and comprehensive in meaning, idioms are the gems of a language. Idioms are production of people's wit and wisdom. They best mirror the national characteristics embodied in a language and thus are carrier of national flavor. So the quality of the translation of idioms has direct influence on the whole translation.
