浅析“化境论”对科技翻译的借鉴——以海洋哺乳动物学为例

The Enlightenment of the Theory of Transfiguration on Science Translation:Analysis with Marine Mammal Science as Example

以'对等论'为代表的西方译论在处理复杂的科技翻译时具有局限性,这可归因于中西语言和思维方式的显著差异。译者有时需要借鉴中国翻译理论的创新观点以助益科技翻译实践。本文结合海洋哺乳动物学著作的英汉翻译实践,初步探讨了'化境论'对科技翻译的启发,并结合具体翻译实例,总结了一些科技翻译中的化译策略。

Any translation theory has its logical prerequisite and scope of application. The Western translation theories,notably those highlighting equivalence,have their limitations when coping with complex situations in science translation,which is attributed to the gulf between Chinese and European languages as well as their different thinking modes. It is suggested that translators sometimes need to draw on the innovative viewpoints of Chinese translation theories to assist and benefit their science translation practice. Based on the experience of translating marine mammal science,the author discusses the enlightenment of the Theory of Transfiguration on science translation. In this respect,specific translating strategies are also summarized through analyzing some practical examples.
