民族文学外译的可信度透视——以徐穆实《额尔古纳河右岸》的英译为例

An Analysis on Believability of Chinese Ethnic Literature:with The Last Quarter of the Moon as Examples

不同于一般文学作品,民族文学有其独特性,这种独特性正是其译介出去的难点,也对译者提出了更高的要求。本文以徐穆实的代表译作The Last Quarter of the Moon(《额尔古纳河右岸》)为研究对象,从对民族特有词语的翻译、对话形式转换和语段添减等方面入手,通过原文与译文的对比,来探究徐穆实的翻译策略和翻译思想。徐穆实充分尊重原文,尽可能保证对原文准确地翻译,同时他的翻译又有着独特的个人色彩,最大限度地保证了原文的可信度和可读性。徐穆实通过两方面的兼顾与平衡,证明中国文学走出去并不是非要削足适履以迎合西方人的价值观,而是要在充分尊重和保留原作的特色的基础上适当调整,以尽可能保证作品的可信度和真实性,以独特而又可信的方式走出国门,走向世界。

As an American sinologist,Bruce Humes focuses his translation works mainly on Chinese ethnic literature.In 2013,he translated The Last Quarter of the Moon.Different from general literature,ethnic literature requests a unique and different way of translation with its unique characteristic.Choosing Humes’master translation work,The Last Quarter of the Moon,this essay focuses on his translation strategies and translation theories,like the translation of typical ethnic words,transformation of dialogue,deletion and addition,supported by a large number of examples in The Last Quarter of the Moon.As a translator,Bruce Humes did his best to ensure the accurate translation of the original text;but as a sinologist,he did translation with a strong personal characteristic,which is to ensure the believability and readability of the work.Getting right balance of these two aspects is a good enlightenment for the successful outgoing of Chinese culture,especially Chinese Ethnic Literature.
