Name and Nature of English Translated Names of Chinese Tertiary Institutions——Based on an Investigation of Names of Tertiary Institutions of Four Main English-speaking Countries

本文从中国大学校名英译的现状出发,基于英、美、澳、加等主要英语国家大学校名的命名规则,探讨中国大学校名英译的原则以及大学校名英译质量评估方法,以期对中国大学校名英译提供有益的参考,提高英译质量,促进中国大学对外交流,扩大国际影响力。

This paper,starting from an investigation of the status quo of English translation of the names of Chinese tertiary institutions,aims to conduct a discussion on the principles of English translation of the names of Chinese tertiary institutions and translation quality control,based on the naming rules of universities and colleges in four main English-speaking countries,namely,the UK,the US,Australia and Canada,in the hope of shedding some light on English translation of the names of Chinese tertiary institutions,improving their quality of translation,promoting their international exchanges,and expanding their international influence.
