In the 1990s,the novels of Haruki Murakami were enthusiastically received by Chinese and Western readers,leading to what was later called'the Murakami Phenomenon'.The present article explores the reasons for the success and popularity of his novels when translated into Chinese.By examining the comments posted online by readers,the author seeks to characterize the Murakami reading communities in China's Mainland,Hong Kong SAR and Taiwan.
