多元系统论视角下《孙子兵法》的英译变迁

The Change of English Translation of The Art of War from the Perspective of Poly-system Theory

《孙子兵法》英译历史久远,各家译本层出不穷。本文基于多元系统论视角,通过统计分析和实例论证的方法,描述四个译本(Samuel Griffith译本,林戊荪译本,Thomas Cleary译本和John Minford译本)的翻译特色。与此同时,我们试图从历时性角度分析各个时期的译本成因,总结发展规律,从而揭示西方读者对中国典籍阅读需求的变化过程,以指导现阶段典籍外译事业,帮助译者适应不断变换的海外市场。

There is a long history of translating The Art of War into English,and various versions appeared at home and abroad.Based upon the perspective of poly-system theory,this paper aims to describe the features of the four different English versions,including translations of Samuel Griffith,Lin Wusun,Thomas Cleary and John Minford.In the meanwhile,we try to analyze the reasons about why the four translated works show diversified characteristics and summarize its principle of development.Therefore,translators,who devoted themselves into the Chinese classical translation career,are able to know readers’needs in the west and obtain some guidance for their works at hand.
