William Blake is a famous British poet who writes many lyric poems which make him become a major figure of Romantic literature. In the poem "London," the speaker expresses his dissatisfactions to the decayed society and depicts common people’s miserable life as well as their depressed emotions by employing the device of figurative language, such as repetition, image and metaphor. According to the speaker’s description, London is no longer an appealing city because it is quite similar to the hell which is full of pains and sufferings.
