This paper, by induction and deductions, gives an analysis to the role and functions at coach in training and competition of sports from the angles of cybernetics, pedagogies, information theory and system theory. It also points out coach's functions of instruction in athletic training and contest while probing into the necessity to recognize the role and above functions of coach.
