从《人生》、《黄土地》、《老井》到《美丽的大脚》等以反映西部地域文化特征为主的中国西部电影,在它发展过程中,其文化审美视角形成了鲜明的特征:从20世纪的80年代侧重于道德评判和对传统文化的反思到21世纪初转向对平民情怀的关注,体现了文化重负下的多维融会的发展趋势,具有广泛的现实意义和历史深度;而它向观众展示的浓郁的地方特色令人耳目一新,富于民族特色与乡土气息的西北风土人情的文化长卷,以及复杂的人物性格,富有感染力的综合艺术手法,构成了西部电影独特的审美价值。
