扁鹊见蔡桓公

Bian Que visits Duke Huan

扁鹊(公元前407—前310年)进见蔡桓公(另有记载为齐桓侯,此处沿用习惯说法'扁鹊见蔡桓公',对话用'桓侯'),站在他对面看了一会儿,说:'您的肌肤之间的空隙和肌肉、皮肤纹理中有点小毛病,不医治恐怕要加重。'桓侯说:'我没有病。'扁鹊退出以后,桓侯对左右的人说:'医生喜欢给没有病的人治病来捞取功劳.'过了十天,扁鹊又进见。

Bian Que(407 BC—310 BC),a very famous physician,came to see Duke Huan(also known as Duke of the Qi State).Standing in front of the duke,Bian Que said,“Your majesty,something is wrong with your skin.But it has just started underneath the skin,so if you do not seek treatment,it may get worse.”Duke Huan replied,“I feel perfectly fi ne.”After Bian Que left,Duke Huan said to his subordinates,“Physicians like to show off their skills by treating healthy people.”Ten days later,Bian Que went to see Duke Huan again.“Your majesty’s disease has expanded into the muscle,and will become serious without timely treatment.”Duke Huan still ignored Bian Que this time.
