《曾在天涯》展示了在当代市场经济环境下的一个医药学研究生在继承、坚守中国文人固有的价值观、人生观过程中尴尬、困惑、苦恼与动摇。他最终成了一个“被迫的虚无主义者”。而这种“被迫的虚无主义者”恰是当代相当一部分知识分子的精神写照。作品由此表达出对传统精神资源有效性的质疑 。

The novel Ever in the End of the Earth demonstrates that under the environment of the contemporary market economy, a medical graduate student's embarrassment, puzzlement, bitterness and shakings in the process of inheriting and insisting on Chinese scholars innate values and outlook on life. Finally he became a 'forced nihilist'. However, this kind of 'forced nihilist' is really the reflection of some of the contemporary intellectuals. The works express a query to the effectiveness of the traditional spiritual resources and put forward a question of using what to save humanism.
