An Elementary Discussion on “Goddess of Sea” Matzu in Taiwan

自从妈祖传到台湾后,得到广泛的传播和发展,如今已经成为台湾主要的民间信仰之一。妈祖信仰之所以能在台湾风行,有几点原因:独特的发展历史、自身的魁力、官方的支持,及台湾民间信仰与祖国大陆传统文化的渊源联系。

Since its introduction to Taiwan, the worship of 'Goddess of Sea' Matzu has been spread and developed widely and so far it has become one of the most important folk beliefs in that area. The reasons for its great influence and principal role in Taiwan vary: first, its unique history of development; second, its own charm; third, Taiwan government s support; fourth, the historical links between the folk beliefs in Taiwan and China's Mainland.
