This paper analyzes the main body, motive force and functions of the American west development, summarizes and makes an abstract of four successful experiences to go by in the development of the western region of China, on the basis of which some suggestions are made, including prioritizing the development of transportation, cultivating economic growth so as to spur on the regional economy, developing peculiar enterprises through exploiting superior natural resources and strengthening environmental protection and ecological improvement to build a beautiful land.
