语言是文化的载体和镜像。不同的文化决定着不同的审美观念 ,而不同的审美观念反映到语言中的词语上就决定了词语具有不同的联想意义和象征意义。文章作者以英汉语言中最典型的四类词汇即植物词、动物词。

Language is the carrier and mirror of culture. Different culture leads to different aesthetic ideas; different aesthetic ideas decide different reflected meanings and symbolic meanings of words. The author cites plant words, animal words, numerals and color words in English and Chinese as examples to illustrate the influence of aesthetic ideas on the related meanings of words.
