Metalloproteins utilize a relatively small number of metal-based prosthetic groups to serve numerous and diverse chemical functions. The Heme-protein family represents a fascinating example in this respect. A large number of heme-protein minimalisted models have been developed using quite different strategies for understanding the structure-function relationship in heme-proteins. Here, design and characterization of α-helix bundles heme-roteins and peptide-sandwiched proteins are reviewed.
