A modified Chua's circuit is investigated by replacing its piecewise linear \$v i\$ characteristic of the nonlinear component with the \$x|x|\$ function. The role of the function \$x|x|\$ as a chaos generator is discussed, and is rigorously verified via the Shil'nikov method. Simulations with bifurcation analysis are carried out and, finally, a circuit design implemented in laboratory is described.\;
