《嘉莉妹妹》是美国自然主义作家德莱塞的代表作。故事讲述了在十九世纪末美国特定的环境下,天真无邪的‘农村少女’嘉丽从农村进入城市,在遇到不同的人,历经不同事后如何堕落成为一个金钱至上的物质享乐者。本文通过分析每次社会环境的变化对嘉莉价值观的改变和人生命运的改变得出环境决定嘉莉的命运这一自然主义的结论。

Sister Carrie is the masterpiece of the American naturalist Dreiser.It tells the story of how sister Carrie,a Coun-try girl,degraded into a hedonist worshiping money and material to the extreme after meeting different people and experiencing different things. This paper try to analyze how Carrie’s live value and destiny is influence whenever she is in a different environ-ment which proves that Carrie’s destiny is determined by environments.
