Charlie in the novel Flowers For Algernon was born to be mentally retarded, without any so-called identity. However, for a mystical experiment by a remarked brain specialist,he came to be a genius and started his chasing for self. This experience is unexpectedly parallel to that of Chinese Americans.By the ingenious contrast between the road of chasing identity of Charlie and Chinese Americans, this paper tries to reveal the great hardship and confusion in their searching for identity, and therefore concludes that there would be an extremely long way for both of them to achieve equal right with the others in real sense and to obtain the recognition of identity.
