An Interpretation of The Death of the Hired Man from the Perspective of Cognitive Poetics

《雇工之死》是美国诗人弗罗斯特叙事诗的杰出代表作。然而对于该诗的研究却仅限于传统的文本分析方法。采用认知诗学这样一种全新的文本分析方法和理论对该诗作出全新解读。重点运用原型范畴、图形背景和概念隐喻三种理论来解读诗中未被发掘的主题及其内涵意义,从而帮助读者深刻理解诗中所蕴含的哲理,并获得新的审美体验。

The Death of the Hired Man is a prominent representative of Robert Frost ’ s narrative poetry .Howev-er ,the study of this poem is restricted to a traditional way of text analysis .Cognitive Poetics ,as a newly emerged dis-cipline ,provides new theories and methods to text analysis .So this paper tries to interpret the poem from the per-spective of Cognitive Poetics based on prototype theory ,figure-ground theory and conceptual metaphor theory ,aiming to help reader to get a better understanding and experience of this poem .
