A Brief Talk on the Marvelous Feats of Liu Jiang and Bi Gong, the Famous Frontier Defending Generals

终明之世边防最重,倭寇、蒙古、女真,为患不已。明设九镇防边,一批戍边干才脱颖而出。辽东时为重镇,抗倭寇,拒朝鲜,抚女真,拱卫京师,卓尔不群、功勋昭著之将代有人出,总兵刘江、都指挥毕恭尤为其中皎皎者。

Toward the end of the Ming Dynasty, the frontier defense was in danger because the Japanese pirates, the Mongolians and the Nuzhen tribes made much trouble there. Therefore, the nine fort towns were set up to defend the frontier, where some defending talents showed themselves. Liaodong was then one of the nine important fort towns, where among many who fought against the Japanese pirates, kept Koreans out, appeased the Nuzhen tribes and defend ed the capital, came out famous and reamrkable generals. Liu Jiang, head soldier, and Bi Gong, town leading officer, in particular, were the best of them. 
