摘要
本文关注私营企业在当下创新型国家建设大潮中的创新活动投入,但有别于目前主流理论,作者认为私营企业作为改革开放的制度产物,私营企业家对"自身地位"的判断具有高度敏感性,并用其指导企业战略的"进与退",因此私营企业家对自身地位的感知成为影响企业创新投入的关键因素。本研究基于全国私营企业抽样调查数据库的实证结果支持了相关假设:第一,私营企业家自身地位感知与企业创新投入正相关,这一作用在经营时间短、小规模及低市场地位的企业中更为显著。第二,当个体企业家感知地位高于群体地位的平均水平时更偏好创新。第三,在市场化程度低的地区,私营企业家如果地位感知高,能够显著促进企业创新投入。本文价值在于:提示了如何激发私营企业创新这一"进"的行为,引导其为推进创新型国家建设贡献力量,引起对于私营企业家"心理健康"的重视。
This paper investigates Chinese private enterprises’inputs in innovative behaviors in the current tide of the innovation-oriented country construction in China.Different from the current mainstream theory,since the way Chinese businessmen do business largely depends on their judgments on their own self-status,which is the so-called'knowing when to proceed or draw back',we argue that as the private enterprises are the institutional products of the reform and opening up,the private entrepreneurs have high sensitivity when perceiving their self-status,and the perceptions of their self-status are key factors that can influence firms’innovation inputs.Based on the 9 th National Private Business Investigation Database,the empirical results supported our following hypotheses.First,private entrepreneurs’perceptions of their self-status are positively related to the levels of private firms’research and development investments,and this relationship is more significant in enterprises with shorter operating time,smaller size,and lower market status.Second,the individual entrepreneurs prefer to invest more to the firms’research and development if they have a higher perception of self-status compared to the average level of the group of private entrepreneurs,in other words,private entrepreneurs’relative status perceptions are positively related to firms’innovation investments.Third,in regions where the degree of marketization is lower,private entrepreneurs with higher perception of their self-status can more significantly promote investments in firms’innovation because entrepreneurs’higher perceptions of self-status can help mitigating the adverse effects of institutional voids such as imperfect market system.This paper can contributes to the current literature and theoretical framework by suggesting how to stimulate the private enterprises to increase their innovation and guiding them to make more efforts to the innovation-oriented country construction in China,as well as emphasizing that we can absolutely not ignore the private entrepreneurs’'mental health'including their personal perceptions of their status.
