Ageing has become a major issue that requires detailed study and response.Differences and disputes over expressions and definitions of relevant concepts have brought some confusion to ageing-related research,work and policy making.By presenting different viewpoints,this paper provided clear definitions of confused concepts in this field,including but not limited to'ageing','the elderly',and'ageing population'and'ageing-related issues'.Based on the concept of second-order deviation'in hermeneutics,this paper also presented a possible theoretical explanation to further understand such differences and disputes.Through the comprehensive presentation of these definition disputes and their causes,this paper not only helped avoid simple repetition,but also laid the groundwork for academic discussion and practice innovation.
