中西方小说观念的巨大差异性以及中国古代小说①概念形成的历史复杂性,使得古代小说研究界在小说概念的定义问题上无法达成共识。而古代小说研究者对小说概念的不同理解造成了研究的多元化,最终形成了文学价值本位、文学文化价值兼容、文化价值本位的三种研究路线。由于古代小说概念生成的复杂性及其历史变异性,上述三种研究路线其实是从不同层面接近中国古代小说的历史真实。在当代复兴民族文化的大语境中,关注小说文化价值的研究路线将会获得更大的研究优势,也将成为古代小说研究的整体趋势。

The huge difference between the notions of Chinese and western novels and the historic complexity of the concept of ancient Chinese novels bring no consensus on the definition of the concept of novels in the ancient novel research community.The research diversity caused by the different understanding of the concept of novels among ancient novel researchers finally leads to three research approaches including literary value orientation,literary and cultural value combination and cultural value orientation.Due to the development complexity of the concept of ancient novels and its historic variation,the three research approaches above are actually revealing part of the historic authenticity of ancient Chinese novels.Under the context of the modern revival of national culture,the research approach of cultural value orientation of novels will gain a greater advantage and become the overall trend of the research of ancient novels.
