The Beauty of the Confucian “Etiquette”

中国自古是"礼仪之邦","礼"是言语举止的规范,也是美的表现。从汉字起源的角度来看,"礼"和"美"意义相近,都是表达人们强烈愿望,保证生存繁衍的精神活动。孔子继承和发扬周代礼乐文化,以"仁"释"礼"。"礼"是"仁"也即"人"的表现形式,也就是美。儒家经典文献中记载了许多古代礼仪活动,让后人欣赏,有丰富美感。当代中国实现中华民族伟大复兴,也应继承和发展儒家传统文化,展现更多的"礼"之美。

China has been'the country of etiquette'since the ancient time.'Etiquette'is the social norms of man’s behavior,and also the manifestation of beauty.From the origin of the Chinese characters,'etiquette'is similar to'beauty'in sense,for they are both the spiritual acts that express man’s desire and ensure the survival and reproduction of human being.Confucius inherited and carried forward the rite and music culture of the Zhou dynasty,interpreting the rite with the new concept of'Ren'(humanity).Etiquette is beauty as the manifestation of man’s'Ren'.There are many ancient rite activities in the Confucian classics that inspire people’s aesthetic perceptions.Nowadays,China is undergoing the great rejuvenation.It is also an era for us to inherit and development the traditional Confucian culture so as to reveal more beauty of Chinese'etiquettes'.
