The Railway Travel Guide and the Spatial Change of Tourist Areas in Republican China——A Case Study on the Region of Bohai

铁路旅行指南是民国时期铁路大众化以后大量出现的一种新式资讯类书籍。其内容包罗万象,包括铁路各线运行时刻列表,沿线各站风景名胜推介,商旅、时讯及休闲娱乐设施等内容。以环渤海区域为代表的铁路指南既是施政者发展区域经济、拓展旅游客源的媒介,也是平民百姓行旅生活的指南。铁路指南的文本既展现了近代铁路沿线旅游地空间结构的迁移,也在客观上促进了旅游模式的转型。

The railway travel guide was a new type of guide book that appeared after railways had become public traffic facilities in Republican China. It included time tables,scenic spots,business information,news,introductions of entertainment facilities,and etc. For example,the railway travel guide for the region of Bohai not only helped the government develop the regional economy and expand the tourist market, but also became a guide to the travel life of civilians. The railway travel guide displayed the change of spatial structure along the railway and promoted the transformation of the travel mode.
