From Calcutta to Karachi:The Historical Origins of Chinese Community in Pakistan

By far,very little academic attention has ever been paid to the Chinese communities in Karachi,Pakistan.This article tries to explore the history of the Karachi Chinese by putting it in the context of the historical connections between Calcutta,Chittagong,Dhaka,and Karachi during the colonial period and the India-Pakistan partition in 1947.It argues that the origins and main features of the Karachi Chinese could only be fully understood in the Chinese diasporic network in South Asia.
