A New Study of the Yanyu Lamp

雁鱼灯的称呼由来已久,然而结合画像石题材、历史环境、体态特征与象征意象,应称为鹭鱼灯更为合适。另外,文章通过墓葬规格、出土器物对出土雁鱼灯的墓葬进行对比研究,认为雁鱼灯应是由官方统一制作再进行赏赐,其背后所代表的是西汉的器物赏赐制度。

Base on a study of pictorial stones, historic environment, and the shape and connotation of the birdshaped lamp Yanyu(swan goose and fish), this paper suggests the lamp should be named Luyu(heron and fish), though it has long been called Yanyu. The paper also thinks, after an examination of the tombs containing Yanyu lamps, such lamps were made by the court and used as awards, therefore, they are evidence of the awards system of the Western Han dynasty.
