摘要伊罗生把中国在美国的形象比做中国的大河那样曲折多变。更多的人把美国人对中国的看法比做钟摆,不断地在"爱与恨"之间摆动。其实,中国在美国的形象有其多变的一面,也有其不变的一面。在这多变的形象中,有一点始终没变,那就是中国一直被美国当做低一等的、需要"帮助"、拯救的国家看待。 Harold Isaacs, a wellknown US. China expert, once observed,'Like Chinas great rivers, flooding and receding and shifting their courses to the sea, American images of the Chinese have traveled a long and changing way....'More often than not, Chinas image in the Unites States has been compared to a swinging pendulum, constantly swinging between love and hate. What has been largely neglected is the persistency in Chinas image in the US. Throughout the history of USChina contact, China has been considered by the US as a lesser partner needing'help'. 
