Voyage Data Recorder (VDR) records all data about the voyage condition and status, including the radar data. It is very important for voyage accident analyzing . This paper discusses the test on radar image recording performance of VDR, including test requirement, test principles, test images, test method and test implementation. A test outline and test system has been designed according to the characteristics of VDR radar image recording and related international standard. Several VDR devices have been tested. According to the test practice, the paper also analyzed the factors which affect the performance of VDR radar image recording.
