Great Master Zhu Hong's Theory of Sukhavati

明末四大高僧之一、净土宗第八祖莲池大师的净土思想对明清以至近现代佛教有着重大影响。莲池对持名念佛法门的阐发,对社会道德的提倡,对禅净融合的独特见解,对居士佛教的支持和正确引导,使他成为"净土宗上下千古最圆纯的一人",成为佛教向近代佛教过渡的重要人物。

Great Master Lianchi was one of the Four Great Masters living in the late Ming Dynasty and the eighth leader of Sukhavati Sect.His theory of Sukhavati had a great influence on the development of Modern Buddhism since the Ming and Qing Dynasties.Lianchi elucidated the way of repeatly chanting the name of Buddha and advocated the social morals. He proposed his distinctive view on the combination of Zen Sect and Sukhavati Sect.Besides,he supported and correctly led the Buddhists. All that he had done made him become 'the most outstanding person in the history of Sukhavati Sect.'What's more,he was considered to be one of the important people who made great contribution to the transition from Ancient Buddhism to Modern Buddhism.
