The review made here is focused on the research progress in the United States in sediment dynamics of mouth shoals and present geomorphic processes as well as the tidal-inlet mouths on the sandy shores. Highlighted are geomorphic controlling factors of tidal inlets on sandy shores, special current fields and wave field of the inlets, the 'wave filter' effect of the inlets, mud-transport patterns through the mouth and the influence of band engineering on the inlet development.
