Liang Shuming's early Confucian thought plays an important role in the whole system of 'New Confucian Theory'.Facing the conflict between eastern culture and western one during the period before and after 'The May 4 th Movement',through reforming the traditional Confucian theory and interpreting 'life'theory in western philosophy,Liang created the 'New Confucian theory'on the basis of traditional Confucian theory.Liang's theory strarts a new field of Chinese culture study from a philosopher's view.The theory,however,exists inevitably some oversights and defects because of the limitation of the period.
