The Moli Army and Other Relative Questions

墨离军是唐高宗晚期至武则天初期设在瓜州的一大军镇 ,其名称与吐谷浑国境内的墨离川、墨离海、墨离部落有关。“墨离”是吐谷浑语“狼”的意思 ,墨离军的主体原为投唐的吐谷浑人的蕃军 ,故以吐谷浑语词命名。文章还指出 ,由于东部天山和蒙古高原的葛逻禄人与吐谷浑人同源同种 ,所以也有谋剌部落和墨离军 ;归义军时期 ,瓜州的吐谷浑居民相当多。

The Moli Army was a military organization on the frontier defense county level of Gua Zhou in charge of conscription,training and mobilization of recruits and reservists, had established during the Early Tang Dynasty.Moli,means Wolf in Azar,there were the river and the valley within the territory in Azar kingdom had named after it.The term of Moli had close relationship to the Moli clan who lived in Azar kingdom.By study we find out that the main body of Moli army force were Azar,and they had a large numbers of soldiers joined and offered serve for Tang army forces.It is the reason why the army force had named Moli.This paper pointed out that the people of Geluolu distributed over the regions of eastern side of Tianshan and the High Ground of the Mongolia having a common ancestor with Azar.We see that there were many Azar people whohad lived in Dunhuang(Gua Zhou)during Later Period of Tang Dynasty.
