Fictional narrative traditions and fictional translation strategy

从历时的角度切入,借用翻译文化学派及多元系统理论,以David Copperfield三个不同时期的汉译本为例, 讨论译入语文学中小说叙事传统的演变与译者策略的关系,指出小说翻译实际上是一种受限的活动,是同一文化 语境下不同时期的译者遵照译语的不同叙事风尚对原文的一种改写。

Taking a diachronic view, this paper, by use of the theories of Translation Studies and Polysystem, makes a discussion on how the changes of the target narrative traditions relate to fictional translators' strategy. Three Chinese versions of David Copperfield are analyzed as concrete examples. The author puts forth the view that fictional translation is basically a constrained activity and a certain form of rewriting by translators of different periods under the same target cultural context with different narrative traditions.
