Sham Shui Po, Hong Kong TYPE: Commercial BRIEF: To develop a commercial building for retaiL, restaurants and entertainment, while accommodating the lease requirements of a Large ground floor six-bay public transport terminus and spaces for the parking of 550 private cars and 210 lorries. DESCRIPTION: While the total building area is more than 12 times the area of the site, the building is subject to the severe height restriction of 10 storeys due to its Location directly under the flight path. Five Levels of basement were required to house all the car and Lorry spaces; at the time.this was the deepest basememt to be constructed in Hong Kong. A topdown construction method was used to achieve the shortest building programme, and permitted the superstructure to be constructed simultaneously with the basement.
