Multi-protocol Label Switching is rapidly developing and applying as an internet engineering task force (IETF) standard. The technology has become a key of enhancing the scalability and capabilities in the Internet. The history and characteristics of MPLS, supports of MPLS over IP, and the basic operation including the development of MPLS in China are introduced.
